Annotation "A project of the Universities of Milano, Brescia and Verona with the co-operation of PICT - the Project on International Courts and Tribunals"--T.p.
This book is mainly the result of the works of a conference held in Milan on 24-25 October 2003.
Summary:
The Universities of Milano, Brescia, and Verona; and the Project on International Courts and Tribunals (PICT) have collaborated on this study of the role of civil society--apparently here restricted to non-governmental organizations--in its relationship with international courts, tribunals, and compliance mechanisms, as part of the larger study of the role of civil society in international law. Scholars of law describe such examples as the experience of the AIRE Centre in litigating before the European Court of Human Rights, the ad hoc criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the experience of Greenpeace, and the Law of the Sea disputes. They conclude with a discussion of developing common procedural approaches for the amacus curiae. The 21 studies were presented to an October 2003 conference in Milan, Italy. Distributed in North America by Cambridge University Press. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
