This comparative study of citizen driven revolutionary movements examines several historical conflicts from the twentieth century up to and including recent events in the Arab world showcasing the characteristics of "people power" movements and exploring the effects of globalization on their successes and failures around the globe. The work is divided into sections covering poplar resistance and political change, theoretical concepts of "people power", and the implications of globalization for successful outcomes, and chapters discuss specific examples from Iran in the late 1970s, Central American conflicts of the 1980s and movements in the former Soviet states.
