| Annotation | In the early nineteen nineties fighting broke out between Azerbaijanis and Armenians over the region of Nagorny Karabakh. Thousand of people lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands more were displaced from their homes. In the decade and a half since a ceasefire was called, there`s been virtually no contact between the opposing sides. A new generation has grown up unable to meet, or even talk to each other. In 2006 three local media organizations Internews Azerbaijan, Internews Armenia and the Stepanakert Press Club, got together with the British charity Conciliation Resources to try to build some bridges between the divided societies. The result was Dialogue Through Film, a unique project helping young people living in the shadow of the conflict, to make films together. Over the past four years more than 30 young people have been involved in the project, and between them they've made 26 films. This DVD contains a selection of some of the best films from the second and third years of the project. The work included here opens a window on a little known part of the world, and offers a glimpse of the joys, sadness and absurdities of everyday life in a conflict zone. Dialogue Through Film has been a huge challenge, and everyone involved has learned a lot, both about each other, and about themselves. As one of our young filmmakers said, " These films can`t change the world, but we hope they will give people on both sides of this tragic conflict the chance to reach out to each other, and to see that war is not the way to solve the problems that continue to divide them." |
